What is the best way to drive traffic using social media?
Let me start by saying that you shouldn’t be on every social media out there in the hopes of getting something to stick.
Depending on your blog niche, certain blogs will do better on different social media platforms.
But you need a strategy.
Spending all day, every single day on social media is not the best use of time.
Social is all about images these days.
The more enticing your images are, the more clicks you will get if you have great captions to go with it.
If you not sure where to get images, I wrote a post that shares over 17 places to get feminine stock photos for your blog.
But how can you effectively promote your blog on social media?

Social Media for Bloggers
How do bloggers use social media?
First, let me start by saying that social media is the best platform to get instant results, provided that you know how to use it to your benefit.
If you are looking to get quick blog traffic, grow your email list, or connect with other bloggers in your niche, I would suggest hitting up social media.
Promoting business on social media is one of the best things you can do for your blog for quick results.
I use Facebook groups to network and share my knowledge with my audience.
You can read my whole process here, where I share exactly how I use Facebook groups for business.
Pinterest is what I use and where I get the majority of my traffic.
And this is the exact Pinterest strategy I use to increase traffic.
So how do bloggers use social media for promotion?
There are a few steps you need to implement first before you can start to promote your blog on social media.
First, I would recommend you grab this free social media cheat sheet to help with ideas on what you can post on your platforms to improve reach.
By taking the steps into consideration, you could be seeing results in no time.
1. Identify Where Your Target Audience Hangs Out Already
The first thing you need to do before you can promote your blog for free on social media is to figure out where your target market hangs.
Yes, most of us have a Facebook account, but it’s not the best social media platform for every single niche.
You never want to overdo it and spend all day on social media without an actual plan.
For example, the younger crowds seem to spend a lot of time on TikTok.
I know for sure due to research, that the majority of my audience is on Pinterest and Facebook groups like these ones.
Your audience could be on Instagram.
Do your research and come up with a shortlist of platforms where you want to focus your efforts.
2. Establish a Presence and Learn the Ropes
Once you have an idea of where your audiences typically hang out on social media, it’s time to get active there and start making connections.
Learn everything you can about improving your efforts on those platforms and pay attention to what other bloggers are doing that seems to be working.
You also want to play nice by mentioning other people, sharing work from other bloggers, and simply socializing.
Don’t play the follow and unfollow game.
Stay true to yourself and be as authentic as you can.
And please keep in mind that things on social media are always changing so this will be an ongoing thing.
Start learning and start making connections with your target market.
For all Pinterest bloggers, here is a list of authentic Pinterest Courses for bloggers I have taken to skyrocket my traffic using that particular platform.
3. Tailor Your Posts and Your Images to These Social Media Platforms
If you are looking for tips on how to promote a blog on social media for the best results, you need to understand your audience.
Not all platforms are built the same.
Figure out how to best present your content.
What images should you use on your choice of platform to get the best results?
Should they have text overlay on them and what sizes work best?
The image dimensions and type of content used on Pinterest will not be the same for Facebook pages or Instagram.
Find that out and start tailoring your content to those specs in order to really see results.
Try different approaches and see what works best for you, your blog, and your niche.
What works for one person, may not work for you, so tweak and experiment.
4. Promote on Social Media and Interact For Best Results
With all the prep work and research done, it’s time to start promoting your content.
You want to understand how many times is best for posting on that platform without coming out as spammy.
You also do not want to under promote.
Not promoting at the right time can really affect your marketing efforts, so you will also need to keep that in mind.
I personally use Tailwind to schedule all my Pinterest content for the best results.
I would suggest you grab this epic social media calendar to help with your marketing efforts.
Aim for a mix of interaction, sharing other people’s content, and of course sharing your own.
Mix it up and don’t just toot your own horn all the time for the best results.
5. Grow, Rinse, and Repeat
Most bloggers are always trying to find tips and tricks on how to promote a blog on social media.
Social media works well if you take the time to experiment to see what works for you.
As you spend more time on each social media platform and interact with other users your reach will start to grow more naturally.
Keep it up and spend a little time each week connecting with new people in your target market.
Social media is about socializing.
Keep growing and of course, rinse and repeat on an ongoing basis so your content is continually promoted.
Every few months, it would be a good idea to re-evaluate what you are doing and see what’s getting you the best results.
You will definitely want to do more of that and try new tactics, techniques, and social media platforms as you come across them.
If something is not working, tweak, and pivot.
I would also suggest that you use the ideal social media image size in order to really stand out on the platform you are using to promote your blog.
How to Promote A New Post On Social Media
As you now know, social media is the best platform for those that want that instant traffic.
It is one of the many reasons most bloggers become successful quickly.
I would suggest horning in on the platform you wish to use to really promote your blog and go for it.
Most of my older posts get consistent blog traffic because I promoted them on the appropriate platforms over 40 weeks ago.
Don’t forget to grab this free social media cheat sheet!
Here is a very basic schedule I use to promote my blog on social media:
1. Day One:
- I pin my first pin to the most relevant boards first directly to Pinterest (I then schedule it out to 3 other next relevant boards using Tailwind) – 7 Days apart
- I tweet it (using quotes or lines from the post – I typically tweet 4-5 times using different phrases/quotes). Don’t forget to tweet other content in between
- I share it on my Facebook Page
- I don’t use Instagram, but you could post an image with an overlay to Instagram
- And if you use YouTube it wouldn’t hurt to do a video
2. Day 2-5:
- Another Pin image is Pinned to Pinterest and then scheduled out to Tailwind to other boards (I avoid pinning to the same board). 7 days apart
- Change the image (or quote) and tweet 2-3 times that day
- Instagram Story if you do Instagram
- Short Video Clip to Your Facebook Page or a Collage
3. Day 6-12
- My last and Final Pin (I usually do more Pins after 6 months or so), if you can make an infographic, do it
- Share a quote of the post or mini blog post on Instagram
- Do a tweet if it makes sense
You can also share in Facebook groups if you are part of groups related to your niche and if they allow promotions.
