Social Media Image Size Guide
For all those that enjoy social media marketing, this guide is for you.
We are happy to share the best social media image sizes that you should all be using in 2020 to help you get the most visibility.
Take note and adjust your graphics accordingly.
1. Facebook Page Image Size
I am not a big fan of Facebook pages, but I use them anyway.
It’s just another platform that helps get my brand out there in front of potential readers.
If the majority of your readers use Facebook, then absolutely promote it as much as you can on that specific platform.
I would also suggest digging deep in your Google Analytics to see which social media brings you traffic so you can focus on those.
So what are the best dimensions for your Facebook Page’s profile picture and cover photo?
Let me first start by saying that Facebook will pull up any images you have on your blog post and it will allow you to choose which one you want to display on your Facebook post.
You also have the option to upload an image directly to Facebook and then include a link in the description area.
In either case, for your Facebook photo posts, I would suggest 1200 x 630 pixels. This is the image size you want to shoot for.
Your Pin image of 2:3 ratio also works wonderfully!
Your Facebook profile will displays at 170 x 170 pixels on your Page on computers, 128 x 128 pixels on smartphones, and 36 x 36 pixels on most feature phones.
For video, I recommend a 1280 x 720 landscape and a 720 x 1280 portrait.
If you have a Facebook Group, your photo images can be 820 pixels wide x 462 pixels tall.
And on the desktop, it is displayed at 820 x 250 pixels.
If you are hoping your readers will post and share links to your blog post on their Facebook profiles and pages, include an image of that size in each of your blog posts if possible.
2. Twitter Image Sizes 2020
I love Twitter and I use it to connect with other bloggers in my niche as well as to find sponsored blog posts.
The other day when I was in my Google Analytics, I realized that Twitter did bring me a small amount of traffic each month.
And since then, I make it a habit to tweet at least 3 times a day.
If you enjoy Twitter as much as I do, then you need to have the best image sizes to help boost your growth on the platform.
The ideal social media image sizes on Twitter is 400 x 400 pixels for your profile picture with a maximum file size of 2 MB.
The profile picture will be displayed in a round circle.
And the ideal Twitter header or cover is 1500 px X 500 px size and maximum file size of 5MB.
You will need to use the 3:1 ratio aspect.
Other Twitter image sizes to be aware of:
- Tweeted Image size: 16:9 or 1200 x 675 pixels
- Twitter Card image size: 1.91:1 or 1200 x 628 pixels
And if you want to upload your images straight to Twitter, I recommend making a separate Twitter image (or even several if you’d like) and not including these in your actual blog posts.

3. Instagram Image Sizes 2020
The best Instagram post image size is 1080 px by 1080 px square.
Instagram is a beast and works well for a lot of bloggers especially beauty, fashion, and travel. If you are an Instagrammer, then ensure your images work well.
Instagram images are square so keep that in mind when you are posting.
The app will usually help resize and crop the images for you as needed.
If you want to create them in your own editing software and then upload to the app/site then you will find these Instagram post image size really useful:
- Square – 1080×1080
- Landscape (horizontal) – 1080×607
- Portrait (vertical) & Video – 1080 x 566.
- Story (also vertical) – 1080×1920
- IGTV Video – 1080×1920
The recommended size for cover photo size for IGTV is 420 px by 654 px (or 1:1.55 ratio). Right now, you can’t edit your cover photo after you’ve uploaded it.
For your Instagram Profile Photo size, you want 110 x 110 px!
I find that Instagram tends to resize your images so uploading them with the sizes mentioned above will make your photos stand out once Instagram alters them.
4. Pinterest image size 2020
For Pinterest images, a 2:3 ratio of width to height seems to work best especially in 2020.
Depending on your niche, you may want to play around with even taller images to see what works best.
1000 x 1500 pixels is optimal for getting your pins noticed and repinned. Other ratios may cause your Pin to truncate, or may negatively impact performance.
Remember, Pinterest is extremely picky, so sticking to the right image dimensions is crucial to your success on that platform.
To learn more about how to use Pinterest, read this.
Photo sizes should be a minimum of 600 x 900 which I normally use.
Other 2:3 aspect ratio pin sizes you can use:
- 600 x 900
- 1000 x 1500
- 1200 x 1800
- 2000 x 3000
The minimum image size is 100 x 200 pixels right now, but most images will be shown in the feed with a width of 236 pixels and the height is scaled.
Expanded images (when you click on them) are up to 735 pixels wide.
Include a large image in a vertical orientation on your post to make it easy for visitors (and yourself) to pin right from your site.
The best size for Pinterest square pins is a 1:1 aspect ratio and 1000 x 1000 px image size.
The best Pinterest long pin size 1000 x 2100 px!
Let’s not forget about your profile image size.
Pinterest profile photo size – we recommend to have it at 165 x 165 pixels.

5. YouTube Image Size Dimension
For bloggers that use and promote their content on YouTube, you may find this section very useful.
You don’t really have to use an image on YouTube (aside from your profile and cover images of course), but I thought it may be helpful to include the recommended image size for a custom thumbnail.
The main thing you want to remember about your YouTube custom thumbnail size is that you need to maintain the 16:9 image ratio.
For best results use 1280 x 720 pixels for the custom thumbnail size.
YouTube banner dimensions, what size should that be?
The size that YouTube recommends as the ideal size to use for your banner image in 2020 is 2560 pixels wide by 1440 pixels tall.
The very minimum you should go is 2048 x 1152 px and the maximum is file size is 6 MB!
6. Tumblr Image Size
Tumblr is another very visual social media platform that bloggers can use.
What is Tumblr?
Tumblr is used as a blogging and social media platform that allows users to publish short-form blog posts.
I definitely use it for fun and it’s another way to link my bloggers to other places to help with DA.
I learned this from this amazing Easy Backlink SEO Ebook!
If you are interested in using the platform for fun, then you would want to know the best Tumblr image size.
Your profile photo on Tumblr will be a square image that best displays at 128 x 128 pixels.
High-resolution photos will help here and you can upload images up to 10 MB large.
Tumblr banners will display at various sizes and look best with an aspect ratio of 16:9.
Tumblr banners will display as 3000 x 1055 pixels from the desktop dashboard and 640 x 360 pixels for mobile and dashboard popovers.
If you use Canva most of your images will already be edited to the right sizing.
7. LinkedIn Image Sizes
As a social platform, LinkedIn is most used by professionals to grow their professional network and find career opportunities.
And I know a lot of bloggers use this to find paid work such as writing gigs.
For bloggers that offer services, I highly recommend having a profile set up on LinkedIn to gain more visibility.
It’s definitely encouraged for LinkedIn users to upload a professional headshot as their profile photo to help attract potential prospects.
LinkedIn profile photo size: 400 x 400 pixels or larger and for your LinkedIn profile cover image size use 1584 x 396 pixels.
For your career pages, here are some image specs for you:
- Logo Image – 300 px by 300 px
- Cover Image – 1128 px by 191 px
How do I resize my images for social media?
It is best to resize your photo to the appropriate size and aspect ratio before uploading your photo to any Social Media Platform for great results.
You can resize your social media images with a variety of desktop and web photo editors, like Adobe Photoshop, LightRoom, and more!
I personally use Canva Pro!
After I change the size to the correct px, I want to still ensure that the images don’t take up too much space on my blog.
I use a lot of images.
So another thing I do to get the ideal social media sizes without messing with how the images come out is to run it through an image compressor like tinypng!
This way I am using too much space when I upload an image to my blog or website.
I also use ShortPixel on my website to further compress the sizing of all images. Remember, page speed is impacted by big images on your blog.
We hope these Social Media image sizes help you set up your social media marketing plan the right way.
