Should I accept guest posts on my blog?

Should you be accepting guest posts on your site and how exactly can this help you grow?

The other day I blogged about why it is important to leverage your relationships with other bloggers and how it can help you grow.

If you haven’t read this post, I definitely encourage you to read it.

I share my best tips for working with bloggers and how important it is to nurture those relationships for quick growth.

One of the many things you can do as a blogger to grow your relationships with other fellow bloggers is to offer to host a guest blog post for them.

In my opinion, it is a win-win situation that helps out both parties.

Accepting guest posts is definitely one of the best ways to improve your efforts in driving more traffic and getting your content seen by more people.

I would definitely use the opportunity that comes with guest posting as a way to tap into someone else’s network and readers.

For those that want to get the ball rolling with your blog, you might want to use this strategy both by accepting guest posts on your site as well as writing for other bloggers.

Ready to learn more about accepting guest posts?

What is guest posting?

For those that do not know what guest posting is or what guest blogging is all about, it simply means creating and crafting content that you will contribute to another website.

You would provide your content to be hosted on another site so they can use it as their own content.

Today we want to encourage you to allow other bloggers to post on your blog.

Accepting guest posts is a great way to mingle and get to know other bloggers.

I know that you might feel that spending all your precious time writing posts for other bloggers is a total waste of time, but if done correctly, you can really grow your blog quickly.

One blogger used the technique of writing guest posts for other bloggers and gained over 36,000 new email subscribers

Why guest blogging is important

Let’s start with the obvious benefits of accepting guest posts for your site.

You will get some free epic content for your blog that your readers will absolutely love.

The guest blogger you feature will get in front of your audience and a link back to their blog.

Great, right?

That’s a win for everyone already.

Even our beloved celebrities are frequently collaborating as they know that they can tap into new audiences.

So find time to collaborate.

And there’s more.

The guest blogger will likely promote your new post to their audience, whether it’s on social media, by email, or on their own blog.

This should help you get more blog traffic, incoming links, and exposure to the other blogger’s audience which is a huge opportunity for both bloggers involved.

I saw a new blogger second guess the power of guest blogging in one of the Facebook groups I am part of.

Here is what she asked:

Does guest posting still work? And how can it help me grow?

Google recently changed the way it viewed guest posting for bloggers.

In fact, it now stated that any and all guest posts should now have a no-follow link.

This was a bummer and many bloggers felt like guest posting was now useless and what was the point since they would no longer get that SEO juice.

For me, personally, I still find it useful.

It will still show Google that people are still linking to you and whether it gives you SEO juice or not, I think it’s still great for exposure.

But as the person accepting guest posts, it will allow other bloggers to see how accepting you and how willing you are to collaborate.

You will also be helping a blogger reach more people which is a good thing to do.

Your readers will enjoy reading a great post with a new perspective and will have one more new blog to experience.

That is why it’s crucial to work with bloggers that you trust and you know your readers will also love.

Being someone that connects them with other great resources is just one more service you can provide to your readers that will turn them into thankful and loyal fans.

That’s a big win for both you and your readers.

Should you accept guest posts?

In my opinion, absolutely.

A guest blog post is a great way to introduce a fellow blogger to your audience.

If the two of you have some big plans for collaborations and cross-promotions in the future, this is a great way to make the introduction to your readers in an easy-going, non-pushy way.

This is particularly important if the other blogger has products you plan on promoting to your list as an affiliate.

Spend a little time warming them up by mentioning the blogger and sharing a few guest blog posts or interview posts before you start introducing their products.

Not only will this make your readers more comfortable, but your chances of converting readers into customers will also go up as your audience gets to know the other blogger.

One of my top-earning posts is a guest post I received from a very popular blogger.

Once she created products, she invited me to become an affiliate for it.

I simply went to her already popular guest post on my blog and inserted the links where it made sense.

And instantly made $1000 from it that month.

How to make money online with affiliate marketing

**Sorry I had to black out my other affiliate partners for privacy.

But as you can see, making that $1000 using a guest post I accepted became a win-win for me.

Two guest posts I previously accepted became my top blog post when it came to traffic and they continue to grow year-after-year.

And remember, you can also turn the table and write guest blog posts for other bloggers.

There are so many ways to grow your blog by working with other bloggers.

Reasons to accept guest blog posts

  • Improve your relationships with other bloggers
  • Provide fresh content for your readers
  • You will get quick content if you have no time
  • It establishes authority for both bloggers
  • It’s a great way to build your network

As you can see, accepting guest posts for your site has many amazing benefits.

And if done correctly it can really grow your website both for traffic, income and brand awareness.

You need to know that when you do publish a guest post on your blog it is almost guaranteed to bring in new visitors to your website.

As I mentioned, those that guest post on your site can promote your post as well as share it with their audience.

So be prepared.

3 Things To Do Before You Accept Guest Posts

If you have come this far, then I am sure you now understand that accepting guest posts for your site can be very beneficial.

But before you accept guest posts on your site, there are three things I really suggest you do in order to make the process easier.

1. Set up guest posts guidelines and rules

Ideally, you want to set up a page on your site that outlines all the rules and requirements needed for someone to guest post on your site.

Otherwise, you will receive nothing but junk all day long.

I typically accept guest posts from bloggers I know and trust (from mingling on and offline) otherwise the answer is always no.

You should add information about how long you want the posts to be, some possible topics you’re interested in and your preferred style of writing.

They should also make sure that the post is properly formatted, should not include links to affiliates or spam sites and can only be linked to their blog.

Maybe also limit the number of links they can have on the post.

If they are providing images, permission should be available otherwise you will use your own photos.

2. Have a guest post blog agreement template

A Guest Blogger Agreement is used when you publish articles on your website that are written by other people.

You want to ensure that you are protecting yourself at all times.

Don’t get sued for using photos or anything crazy.

Again, only trust bloggers you know and those that you have interacted with.

This legal contract is needed to protect you and your business from legal implications related to using and owning content created by others, while also giving you the legal right to use this content in your own marketing and promotions.

Make sure the writer has not plagiarized Content that they pass on to you.

You can also use Copyscape.com to ensure nothing is out there.

The content given to you should be unique to you and not posted anywhere else.

You can grab your legal template right here

3. Ensure the post aligns with your blogging goals

How will the post help you and your clients better?

Is it a post that can be monetized or will it help you capture more emails?

I never post a piece of content just for the sake of posting one.

It has to align with my blog, I want to ensure my audience will love it and I want to ensure it has an end goal.

Accepting guest posts is great for getting quick content, but ultimately you want it to work for you and your audience.

At the end of the day, a guest post will do the following for you:

  • It’s totally free content for your blog which helps with quick content creation.
  • You will receive increased social media exposure if both people share the content.
  • You will have plenty of free time to complete other tasks that would normally be neglected when you are writing.

How to find bloggers to write for your blog

There are so many ways you can find bloggers to collaborate with you.

The first step is to check out Facebook groups in your niche.

For example, in my Facebook group, once a week, I have a collaboration post that allows bloggers to post about any collaboration opportunities they might have.

You can simply respond and connect with bloggers that match your needs.

If you are a blogger that accepts guest posts, this is the place to post what you are in need of.

Another way to find blogs that accept guest bloggers is to do a quick Google search.

Type your YOUR KEYWORD” + guest post.

For example, if I was in the mom niche, I would look for “mom blogger guest post”

Try to guest blog on blogs that relate to your niche.

But don’t be afraid to cross over as well.

For example, if you are a blogger that writes about yoga, might be interested in writing a post for a health food blog or fitness blog.

If you blog about travel, you can blog about saving money and budgeting for travel.

So you can work with bloggers in those niches.
